Message from the President
Today’s fast-changing world has placed increased demands on employees to reskill, upskill, and adapt. AI is now impacting the workplace and forever changing the ways organizations compete, which cascades to how higher education institutions should teach.
With this unprecedented change in mind American Public University System is offering several new, career-relevant concentrations and courses, while also reimagining many that already exist. We are creating a comprehensive ecosystem that spans the entire student journey from admissions to advising to course content and co-curricular activities.
This integrated approach is designed to elevate our students’ “signature skills”— Digital Literacy, Critical Thinking, and Growth Mindset. The result? Our graduates are equipped to thrive in both their personal and professional lives. An additional value add? Every single course in our Dr. Wallace E. Boston Business School incorporates Artificial Intelligence.
In addition, we are introducing two new courses in AI and computer science, thanks to a ground-breaking licensing agreement we signed with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL). The new courses – Machine Learning in Business, and User Experience Design – scheduled to be offered this spring through APUS’s School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
These changes come as part of our three-year initiative we call “global digital journey” – which doubles down on our commitment to student-centric learning.
By prioritizing the cultivation of essential skills, embracing technology, and fostering a culture of innovation, we are creating a model that not only prepares students for success but also empowers them to shape an exciting future.
Founded in 1991 by a visionary retired Marine Corps officer who saw an innovative way to offer high-quality and affordable education to U.S. servicemembers, we have transformed into an innovative, global institution serving a wide-ranging population of nearly 90,000 students through American Military University and American Public University.
APUS prides itself on digital learning for real life. We are proud to be a leading provider of affordable, career-relevant, and accessible online education to learners of all backgrounds.
As the No. 1 provider of higher education to the U.S. military and veterans*, we offer over 200 online degree and certificate programs at all degree levels, including doctoral programs. Today, we have over 162,000 alumni from more than 80 countries, as well as all 50 states territories.
APUS has been recognized for our innovative approach to online learning by the prestigious Online Learning Consortium (OLC) on several occasions for best practices** and was named Institution of the Year by the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) in 2024. Our accredited University, designed for working professionals, is in the top 22% for students’ return on educational investment, compared to 4,396 colleges and universities nationwide, according to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce (2025).***
We strive to keep our tuition affordable so that a high-quality education remains within reach for all, including underserved populations and first-generation learners.

Our faculty includes successful executives in government, business, and non-profit organizations.
Our learners are highly motivated and often balancing family, school, and their careers.
