Undergraduate NanoCert® in Basics in Emergency Management
Program Description
The NanoCert in Basics of Emergency Management prepares students with an understanding of the basic tenets of emergency management. The undergraduate NanoCert in the Emergency Management Fundamentals is a three-course program that focuses on the basic building blocks within emergency and disaster management including an overview of emergency management, emergency planning, and the incident command system.
NanoCert Objectives
After successfully completing this NanoCert, the student will be able to:
- Examine the history and functions of emergency management.
- Describe the integrated emergency management system including federal, state, and local government and non-governmental agencies.
- Summarize the basic emergency planning processes used in the U.S.
- Outline the main components of an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and the essential functions of a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
- Compare and contrast federal, local, and state mandates pertaining to emergency planning.
- Describe the functional areas, define the various terms, and list the responsibilities involved within an incident command system.
- List the concepts of command structure, lines of authority, and the incident command system.
- Describe the importance of teamwork among individuals & agencies in achieving the success of the operation at risk.
