Undergraduate NanoCert® in Administration Chief
Program Description
The NanoCert entitled Administration Chief prepares students to learn the responsibilities, duties, and roles of an Administration Chief. The undergraduate NanoCert, Administration Chief, is a three-course program that focuses on the responsibilities in performing the administrative services for a fire department. This includes being responsible for processing correspondence, handling the department payroll, completing reports, responding to inquiries, requests and complaints, and maintaining and updating departmental files and records.
NanoCert Objectives
After successfully completing this NanoCert, the student will be able to:
- Distinguish the difference between the strategic and operational role of human resource management and the application of principles and theories of human resource management.
- Illustrate how employee retention motivators and retention strategies can reduce an organization’s turnover rate and the effect of human resource initiatives on employee motivation.
- Discuss the different federal Acts (Family and Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, etc.) and policies that can impact firefighters such as discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and the rights allocated in the disciplinary process for employees and employers.
- Examine the rationale for and exceptions to the Fireman’s Rule and the direction the courts are beginning to take regarding it.
- Explain the liability issues resulting from negligence in the fire service and the immunity protections afforded to firefighters and fire departments.
- Discuss the elements of effective department administrators.
- Explain the numerous duties of a fire department administrator.
